About

I’m John Levin. I like history, free software and putting the two together. Currently I’m doing a PhD at the University of Sussex, on debtors’ sanctuaries and prisons. There’s more about that on my other blog Alsatia. See the links under projects in the sidebar for other stuff I’m working on.

Other projects I have worked on, in a voluntary capacity:

Locating notices of runaway dlaves in British newspapers for the Runaway Slaves project.

Finding reports of mob violence against Afro-americans in newsapers for Collective Punishment.

Data wrangling for the Political Meetings Mapper, mapping chartist meetings in 1840s Britain.

Opinions are mine, as is the copyleft.
